After the demise of SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav on Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, SP has fielded Dimple Yadav as its candidate for the by-election. On the other hand, BJP has fielded former Etawah MP Raghuraj Singh Shakya. There is a direct competition between the two. This time BSP and Congress have not fielded candidates in the by-elections. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has campaigned twice, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya three times and Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak twice, BJP state president Bhupendra Chowdhary has campaigned twice in Mainpuri. In the SP camp, along with National President Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav, Ramgopal Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav have sought votes to maintain Mulayam’s legacy.

In the year 1989, SP contested Uday Pratap here and won. Since then, the SP has been winning the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat continuously. Mainpuri Lok Sabha has five assembly constituencies. One Assembly Consists of Jaswantnagar of Etawah. Here in 1984 Balram Singh Yadav won the elections for the last time as a Congress candidate. BJP has never been able to win the election on Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. Mulayam contested from here in 1996, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2019. By-elections were also held in 2004 and 2014 after Mulayam’s resignation. This time the by-election is being held on the death of Mulayam.
