With Congress virtually pushed against the Wall, it decides to go back to the drawing board
Lucknow: After the crushing defeat in five states, the Congress has started making new tricks. Congress leaders are going to hold ‘Chintan Shivir’ to prepare future strategy. Before this, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will also be called by the party high command.
In the last CWC meeting, the party had decided to convene ‘Chintan Shivir’ to chalk out its election strategy. The party is now in power in only two states, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and is part of a ruling coalition in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. A senior party functionary said, “We are in the process of finalizing the dates. Also, the matters to be taken care of in the party’s ‘Chintan Shivir’ are also being discussed.”
Discussions on preparations in Congress War Room
Several meetings have already taken place regarding the preparation of the Chintan Shivir. In a meeting held on Tuesday in the Congress War Room, senior leaders Ambika Soni, Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik and party general secretary organization KC Venugopal discussed the preparations for the Chintan Shivir. According to a party source, within two-three days the work on the final proposal of ‘Chintan Shivir’ like agenda, date and venue will be finished.
Chintan Shivir will be held in Gujarat or Himachal!
The source said the oldest party is seriously considering whether the venue should be in poll-bound states like Gujarat or Himachal Pradesh, where elections are to be held at the end of the year. In the CWC meeting held on March 13, Congress President Sonia Gandhi also held discussions with the party leaders. These included leaders from the G23, who are critical of the current leadership and are calling for organizational change.
