Lucknow: The irony about the life of women is summed up very well in Sridevi’s English Vinglish which has a dialogue that goes Mard Khana Banaye to uska kala hai, Aurat Banaye to uska Farz. It clearly spells out that archaic notion that a woman is born to serve, while the man is supposed to live the merry life. With changing times today beating the male bastion hollow in their own game are headstrong women who have managed to shatter the glass ceiling and have emerged as some of the biggest success stories.
Celebrating women of note it was a Saturday well spent as 27 dynamic women from across streams like education, Health, law and order, social work and entrepreneurship were felicitated for their contribution to the society in the presence of Lucknow Divisional Commissioner, IAS Ranjan Kumar and ADCP ( Central ) Chiranjeev Nath Sinha at the Lucknow Book Fair. The occasion was the Women’s Excellence Award 2021 brought to the city for the first time by The Lucknow Tribune & Lucknow Book Fair supported by Meghdoot, Rotary Greater Lucknow, Chai Coffee Something? and Pranika’s Choco Castle. The event was organized by Forceone Advertising and Events under the overall supervision of Director, Aakarsh Chandel in the presence of Convenor of the Lucknow Book Fair, Manoj Singh Chandel.
A special honour went to the dynamic Jai Agarwal and Anuj Agarwal of C.P. Milk & Food Products Pvt. Ltd who were honored with the Shan-e – Lucknow honour.
The event was hosted by expert anchor Jitesh Shrivastava.
Among the honored Police Officers were Dr. Archana Singh, Binu Singh, Shweta Sriwastav, Samiksha Pandey, Swati Chaudhary, Prachi Singh, Rashmi Shrivastava and Neelam Rana. Social activist Reshu Bhatia, the daughter in law of Lucknow Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia was honoured for her good work towards society. The event brought out some really gritty and humbling stories of women who despite odds in life stood tall and emerged as true winners in their choice of field.
A doctor, a mother and a meritorious student of Science, Dr. Supriya Singh had always dreamt of wearing the doctor’s coat. Something she aimed with the sole idea of serving the people in need of good healthcare. Managing to score well in her successive exams and being proficient in her skillsets she became a doctor. After a good run in her choice of field, she is today serving at the Era’s Medical College and Hospital, Lucknow. She has persevered to emerge as someone who is now respected for her capabilities in the medical field. Supriya firmly believes “There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself, comfortable in her perfect imperfection..”
If Supriya at young age did her family proud, there are others in the medical fraternity like Dr Vaishali Jain, Dr. Varada Arora, Dr Kumudini Chauhan who have fast made name for themselves in the field of child and maternal care. Dr.Rupika Singh is Founder & Dermatologist at Akiya Aesthetics who has done the city proud. As a dentist of note, Dr. Priyanka Singh a Dental Surgeon and a senior consultant at the Panacea Dental Clinic has already become a force to reckon with. As an Optometrist and Co – Founder of Optikumbh, Dr Niharika Rastogi is helping save vision each day.
Rising the corporate ladder are names like Aparna Mishra with 18yrs of Corporate experience in Media, FMCG and telecom, and 11yrs in entrepreneurship now a consultant to startups and women entrepreneurs. She has founded a global digital magazine “ Women Shine.”
Matching strides with Aparna are power house women like Shubha Joshi who is the founder of the highly reputed The Image Launchpad and is one of the only three AICI Certified Image Consultants in India. Foodpreneur Himani Mishra, chef and owner of Sassy canteen is a professionally trained chef. She has worked at most five star hotels like ITC, The Oberoi Hyatt and has worked at premium restaurants in Delhi too. Similarly Monika Singh owner of Pranika’s Choco Castle(PCC) started out of sheer love for chocolate making but today is a seasoned computer teacher in Lucknow turned entrepreneur.
On the contrary, Annpurna Sahai after entering wedlock became a part of a big joint family. A mother to three lovely children and wife to a government employee she got full support from her family which helped her play the role of guardian to not just young girls in a hostel but also care for stray animals who she nurtures patiently.
In a world where professionalism stems from academic excellence, educated teachers and their role in society cannot be denied. As a woman who has led three major school launches, Dr Rina Pathak, Founder Principal of Seth M. R. Jaipuria School, Goel Campus stands out in the crowd. Born and brought up in Kolkata, an MA and PhD in English literature she commands respect in her fraternity.
Wife to a Sewa Medal Awardee, Ruchi Sharma is Director/Principal, The Blooming Dales School Eldeco, Udyan I, Lucknow. She is a dedicated and motivated Preschool Director with considerable experience in managing both children, staff & parents. She has 25 years experience.
The others on the list are Ritu Singh a senior ARTO, who is an M.A. in History and UGC – NET qualified and a qualified Junior Research Fellow . With hard work and commitment managing to make a mark in the Transport Department. Deepmala Mishra joined the Indian Railways in 2011 and is currently working as a Station Master at Badshahnagar station. A Doctorate in Philosophy(Ph.D.) in Hindi from Lucknow University, she is doing her family proud. Similarly working as a Goods Guard is Jagriti Tripathi.
As each walked up to the stage to receive their honours, the one thread that bound all these women was one line that ex PM, Dr. Manmohan Singh once said – No force can stop an idea whose time has come.
