Yadav supremacy nosedives in Samajwadi party citadel
Kannauj: First the Lok Sabha elections, then the assembly elections and now the Legislative Council elections. In three consecutive elections, the SP has lost its strongest stronghold at the hands of the BJP. In the middle of last year’s panchayat elections also, BJP had captured all the blocks and district panchayats here. In this district, now the kitty of SP is completely empty. Pranshu Dutt Dwivedi of BJP has won the election by sweeping this seat of the Legislative Council from the SP.
After coming into existence in 1992, 30 years ago, the Samajwadi Party dominated Kannauj for three decades. Due to the continuous victories, it was called the stronghold of the SP. Due to being the neighboring district of Etawah, it was also the work place of the SP chief and it also got a special status in the political corridor.
In the last three decades, many elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha were also won. But now the picture has changed. The Samajwadi Party, which ruled the city of fragrance for three decades, has now been completely cleared from here. There is no such seat here, on which the SP can claim to call its own. The SP’s cycle has been completely punctured here in the trap laid by the BJP.
The scope started shrinking from the Lok Sabha elections
The SP had started getting setbacks in its stronghold from the last Lok Sabha elections 2019. Then Dimple Yadav was defeated in the Lok Sabha seat considered to be the strongest like Kannauj. The neighboring Farrukhabad and Etawah were also retained by the BJP. After that the BJP showed its emphasis in the Panchayat elections. The BJP’s lotus blossomed in nine out of 13 seats in the assembly elections.
