Lucknow: State Governor and Chancellor of the University, Anandiben Patel awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the first, second and third place winners at the All India Inter University level of Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur at Gandhi Auditorium, Raj Bhawan. This felicitation ceremony of players was organized on the occasion of National Sports Day being celebrated on the birthday of legendary hockey player Padma Bhushan Major Dhyan Chand.
Addressing the function, the Governor said that education and sportsmanship lead to the formation of national character and moral upliftment. Balance is essential for success in life. In student life, it is also necessary for the players to keep a balance between education and playing time, so that their goal in life can be achieved.
She said that the playground teaches the lessons of social life to man. In this sequence, the Governor expected to promote India’s traditional indigenous sports in universities. She said that we have a rich heritage of domestic sports. It also does not require huge resources. Today when we are celebrating Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, we should promote indigenous traditional sports.
Governor Anandiben Patel honored the winners of 68 individual events and 12 team winners with medals at the function.
The winning sportspersons won 20 gold, 20 silver and 28 bronze medals in individual events. Whereas in the team event 04 gold, 02 silver and 04 bronze medals as well as 02 teams got the prize of getting fourth place in the competition. Along with giving medals to the players, the Governor also honored the coaches of the players by giving them mementos.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nirmala S. Maurya, along with a welcome address to the Chancellor and the Governor, expressed gratitude for honoring the medals of the players. He honored the Governor by presenting him an angavastra and a memento at the function.
On this occasion, university teachers, all the winning sportspersons, students who received medals and concerned officials of Raj Bhavan were present in the auditorium.
